RESERVE BANK OF FIJI BUILDING WEARS RED ON TUESDAY
The Reserve Bank of Fiji wore a 90 metre red satin ribbon today as part of BAHA Fiji's 'Wear Red on Tuesday' campaign to mark World AIDS Day. The stunt announces the arrival of Fiji's Business Coalition on HIV and AIDS, known as BAHA Fiji, and marks a clear message that the business community will play its role in the important issue of HIV and AIDS. The President of the Republic of the Fiji Islands, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, joined BAHA Chairperson Caz Tebbutt to inspect the giant ribbon at 11.30am this morning. "The President has shown tremendous leadership on this important issue of HIV and AIDS and he is to be congratulated for his commitment and ongoing support", said Ms Tebbutt. "This ribbon makes a strong statement about private sector involvement in promoting awareness about HIV and AIDS", she said. The red ribbon was placed in the shape of the global HIV and AIDS symbol, the cross-over. Two bolts of red satin fabric were tied at the top of the 11th floor, thrown diagonally over the front of the building, and then secured on the first podium level. The result was spectacular and it is the largest red ribbon the country has seen. BAHA General Manager Marlene Dutta coordinated the feat at 7am this morning. The wind posed a few challenges during the day and around 11am the ribbon had to be secured again. More than 40 business houses and organizations also answered the call by BAHA for workplaces to Wear Red on Tuesday for World AIDS Day. Staff dressed in red, wore red ribbons or decorated their shops, lobbies and even buses with red balloons and streamers for World AIDS Day. This fun and creative start of BAHA Fiji's initiatives paves the way for future activities to increase HIV awareness in the workplace, enabling business to play a positive and constructive role in preventing and reducing the impact of HIV on business and their employees. |
