Key Facts

Cambodia has one of the highest prevalence rates in Asia. It is currently experiencing a generalised epidemic. Sexual contact is the main mode of HIV/AIDS transmission due to high-risk sexual behaviour such as infrequent or lack of condom use, especially among men who have sex with men and those buying and selling sex. Significant numbers of women are also being infected, most likely by their husbands and boyfriends who acquired the disease through paid sex workers. In 2003 woman accounted for 47% of people living with aids.
