Key Facts

Injecting drug users are the group at most risk of contracting HIV/AIDS and this foreshadows possible wider outbreaks in the country. Most injecting drug users report high-risk behaviours such as using non-sterile injecting equipment and having frequent unprotected sex, often with several partners.

A crossover exists between injecting drug users and sex workers, with 25% to 50% of injecting drug users having unprotected paid sex in 2005.
